What is live yeast, and why swap?

The new probiotic in our Segawean® supplements, Landhauser Pro® , is a live probiotic yeast selected for its high stability in the digestive tract, even at low pH. It has a more extensive positive effect, compared to our previous probiotic, in terms of intestinal morphology, immune function, animal welfare and performance

Supports microbial balance

Live yeast consumes oxygen in the digestive tract, creating conditions that favour beneficial bacteria while making the environment less favourable for certain harmful bacteria. It can also help inhibit the toxic activity of organisms such as E. coli and Clostridium difficile.

Supports natural defence

Contributes to local modulation of the immune system and supports the production of IgA antibodies — helping support the animal's natural response to stress.

Supports intestinal integrity

A healthy intestinal wall is essential for absorption and protection. Live yeast helps maintain optimal villi height and crypt depth while supporting limited intestinal permeability.

Supports fibre fermentation

Favourable conditions for fibre-degrading bacteria support fermentation and the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) — an important energy source for intestinal cells.

Segawean® S Lactating Sow · From innovation to farm results

Tested where it's hardest: the farrowing house.

In 2025, Ahrhoff ran a practical trial on a commercial farm to compare our previous Bacillus probiotic with the new live yeast Landhauser Pro® — 672 lactating sows and 8,637 piglets, with sows on average in their fourth litter. From one week before farrowing and throughout lactation, 340 sows received Segawean® S Lactating Sow with the conventional probiotic, while a comparison group of 332 sows received the same supplement enriched with Landhauser Pro®. The live yeast group delivered the following results.

The trial also reported improved FCR and milk production in the sows with no significant increase in backfat loss, reduced piglet losses and a lower proportion of litters with diarrhoea at weaning.

These results come from lactating sows on Segawean® S Lactating Sow — the product where the live yeast has already proven itself on farm. The same technology now runs through the range, including Segawean® F Boost for growers.

Built for the sow herd chasing >30 piglets per sow per year

A complete supplement for the lactating sow — all the necessary vitamins, minerals and trace elements (except salt and lime), with the amino acid combination the lactation phase demands. Highly bioavailable components and lowered crude protein rations positively influence the sow's milk yield and fertility, and the vitality of her piglets.

Phase-specific amino acids

The optimal amino acid combination for lactation. Targeted amino acids instead of excess protein — less ammonia to detoxify, a lighter load on liver and metabolism, more energy into milk.

Fermented wheat malt

Fermented with Aspergillus niger, producing xylanase, ß-glucanase, hemicellulase, cellulase and phytase — enzymes that enhance nutrient digestion and improve performance.

Enzyme complex + probiotics

For improved digestion and metabolism, leading to efficient production through the suckling period.

Full vitamin & mineral cover

Watch the back fat

A lactating sow should not lose more than 1 mm of back fat (±5 kg body weight) per lactating week. Minimising weight loss means highest fertility and milk yield.

The yearly picture

On both Ahrhoff feeding programs the total feed per sow calculates to approximately 1,150 kg per year. After a farm evaluation, the optimal rations and program are implemented on farm.

Segawean® F Boost · The grower phase

More than a premix. A complete nutritional boost.

Segawean® F Boost combines the new generation of live yeast with amino acids, enzymes, functional ingredients, vitamins, trace elements and minerals — designed for grower pigs from approximately 22 kg → 60 kg live weight at 2–2.5% of the complete ration. A complete mineral feed excluding salt and lime.

Helps reduce the pathogen load in growers and finishers, so feed goes into growth instead of fighting infection.

Betaine + inulin

Inulin, a prebiotic fibre, and betaine, an osmoprotectant, work together to support gut health and immunity. Betaine also supports liver function by helping to spare methionine, making more methionine available for growth and protein synthesis.

Vitamins, trace elements & minerals

All B vitamins + vitamins A, D, E & C, including pantothenic acid (B5) — with organic selenium, biotin and the necessary trace elements and minerals in the formulation. Feedlime and salt added separately.
